The Best Art I SAW In 2010
I don’t know if this is late as it is after the New Year as I was reviewing 2010 for the upcoming year I thought about all the great art I saw and what inspired me. Here are the top works of art I saw in 2010. It was a great year in art both viewing and for creating. Here is what I found intriguing.
Daniel Barrow. Winner of the 2010 Sobey Awards Although I missed his performance I think his drawings are elegantly executed. His use use of color and composition create compelling visual images. His stories and titles are humorous and contemporary.

Patrick Bernatchez. The Modern world never felt so close and time never seemed to stand as still as when viewing one of Mr. Brenatchez work. His instillations are truly modern art.
Paul Brunet. Finding this young artist’s work was a special treat with the use of contemporary images from the past forty years mixed with AMPLIFIED ELECTRIC COLOR he creates post apocalyptic images suggesting where humanity is headed if we don’t clean up our act.

Marcel Dzama. Probably the most exciting Canadian Contemporary Artist. His Show at the Montreal Museum of Art Contemporary was simply astonishing.

Angela Grossman. A Canadian Legend. Her lastest showing in Montreal showed how and why she has been kicking ass and taking names for close to twenty years. Ambiguous and ghostly her images speak to us intrinsically.
Charles Orme. From his Icarus series. I love any man willing to get naked in front of a camera and fly.
Paulete Phillips. This work spoke to me about the Culture of Fear and the age we have headed into along with that. Big Brother is watching or at least it felt so visiting her exhibition at MMAC. This was a motion sensor mirror that followed the viewer, like something from a sci-fi film twenty years ago that we can now find in common use in present society.

Px(c). Although heavily influenced by it, Pop Art does not quite hit the nail on the head when dealing with guy. His paintings are painterly and energetic. His collages intimate and humorous.
Brendan Satish Tang. I have hide none of my love for this man’s work. His vessels spell art with a capital A.
Drew Simpson. Delicate and intricate these small works seem to come from a different period in time.
Karen Tam. Here instillation works speak about cultural identity and viewing the world from the stance of a global citizen.
